Employees have specific rights when they’re at work, one of which is that they don’t have to deal with sexual harassment while they’re working. Many people think about overly obvious signs of sexual harassment as being the ones that are forbidden; however, even subtle instances aren’t legal.

Subtle sexual harassment is often overlooked by people who are witnessing it. It may even go unnoticed by the victim until it starts to make them uncomfortable. Learning about some of the signs of covert sexual harassment may be beneficial for all employees.

What are some examples of subtle sexual harassment?

Subtle sexual harassment is often masked by actions that seem innocent. This can include things like unwanted comments that are disguised as compliments. It may also involve a person who frequently brushes against the victim and claims that it was just a mistake.

This type of harassment isn’t only committed by co-workers. It can also be done by clients, vendors, supervisors and company owners. Regardless of who is subtly sexually harassing the victim, it’s up to the employer to put an end to it.

Victims of sexual harassment should feel empowered to speak up when it occurs. They should be able to file a complaint with their employer and the proper authorities without fearing retaliation.

If the employer won’t stop the sexual harassment, the victim may choose to take legal action against the employer. This must be done within a limited time after the incident, so taking action right away is critical.
